Western medicine describe the treatment of medical conditions with medications, by doctors, nurses who employ methods developed according to Western medical and scientific traditions. Department of Nutritional Sciences and Human Oncology, University of Wisconsin, USA found that geraniol, an acyclic monoterpene oil found in lemongrass exert in vitro and in vivo antitumor activity against murine leukemia (cancer in mouse), hepatoma (liver cancer) and melanoma (skin cancer) cells.

Department of Biology and Chemistry, Indiana University, USA found that geraniol from lemongrass suppress pancreatic tumor growth without significantly affecting blood cholesterol levels.

Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Ben Gurion University, Israel found that citral found in lemongrass induced apoptosis in hematopoietic cancer cell.

School of Nursing Science, Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa validate that lemongrass is safe in the treatment of oral thrush in HIV/AIDS patients.

Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, India found that essential oil from a lemon grass variety of Cymbopogon flexuosus has a promising anticancer activity and causes loss in tumor cell viability by activating the apoptotic process.
